The Palestinian Women's Developmental Studies Association implemented two initiatives in the Barcelona camp in Gaza Governorate and the Lebanon Families camp in North Gaza Governorate, under the title "Safe Environment... Dignified Life." This was part of the Emergency Response Project in Gaza (Phase Two), in partnership with Oxfam and funded by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

The two initiatives aimed to reduce the spread of rodents, mosquitoes, and insects in the displacement camps by improving environmental conditions and enhancing prevention and public health measures, in light of the escalating humanitarian and environmental challenges faced by displaced families.

The initiatives included comprehensive campaigns to clean the two camps, remove waste, and eliminate sources of pest breeding, contributing to reducing health risks and the likelihood of disease outbreaks, as well as improving the surrounding environment and enhancing the safety of residents.

The association also distributed rodent and insect prevention kits to displaced families, which included rat traps, mouse traps, special rodent glue, and insecticides, with the aim of limiting the spread of pests inside shelters and enhancing the protection of displaced families.

The initiatives also included awareness sessions targeting women in the two camps, covering methods of prevention and control of mice, rodents, and insects, in addition to distributing awareness brochures containing guidelines on prevention methods and proper ways to deal with the risks of these pests. This contributed to raising the health and environmental awareness of residents and enhancing their ability to protect their environment and health.
